Baked Funfetti Donuts Homemade (Printable Version)

Colorful, sprinkle-filled baked donuts with vanilla glaze - made from scratch without cake mix for a perfect breakfast treat.

# Ingredients:

→ Donuts

01 - 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
02 - 2 tablespoons warm water (about 100°F)
03 - 2 cups all-purpose flour
04 - 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
05 - 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
06 - ¼ teaspoon sea salt
07 - 2 large eggs
08 - 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
09 - ¼ cup melted butter
10 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
11 - ⅓ cup sprinkles

→ Glaze

12 - 1 cup powdered sugar
13 - 1-3 tablespoons milk
14 - 2 teaspoons clear vanilla extract
15 - 3 tablespoons sprinkles

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray two 6-count donut pans with flour-based baking spray.
02 - In a small bowl, stir water and yeast together. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
03 - In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center.
04 - Add eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla, and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until combined.
05 - Gently fold in sprinkles until just incorporated, being careful not to overmix to prevent color bleeding.
06 - Spoon approximately ¼ cup of batter into each donut cavity, smoothing the tops as needed.
07 - Bake for 10-15 minutes, until set and light golden brown around the edges.
08 - Allow donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before removing.
09 - While donuts are cooling, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth and thick but pourable.
10 - Transfer donuts to a wire rack. Drizzle glaze over still-warm donuts and immediately add sprinkles before the glaze sets.
11 - Enjoy while still warm for the best flavor and texture.

# Additional Notes:

01 - You can use an equal amount of instant yeast without the need to proof it first.
02 - A pinch of table salt can be substituted for sea salt.
03 - Clear vanilla extract will keep the glaze whiter than regular vanilla.
04 - Cake batter flavoring can be used for part of the vanilla if desired.
